WHAT ARE BENIGN PIGMENTED LESIONS?

Benign pigmented lesions are non-cancerous growths on the skin that are usually brown or black in color. They can appear anywhere on the body and are more common in people with fair skin. These growths are caused by an overproduction of melanin, the pigment that gives color to the skin, and can be classified into different types based on their appearance and location on the body.

Examples of benign pigmented lesions include:

  • Moles

  • Lentigines

  • café-au-lait macule

  • Becker nevi

  • Dermal melanocytes.

Treatments are quick and performed in-office. Typically, 1-2 treatments are recommended.

HOW CAN I PREVENT BENIGN PIGMENTED LESIONS?

First and foremost, practicing sun safety is crucial. This includes wearing protective clothing, using sunscreen, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure during peak hours. Additionally, maintaining a healthy diet and staying hydrated can improve skin health.
