MY TOP 6 SKINCARE TIPS

Since becoming an aesthetician, I have done what has felt like a swan dive, deep into skincare. And I love it! Here are my top 6 skincare tips.

1 Get professional advice

Get professional advice about the skincare products that would be best for your skin. Without professional skincare advice, you are only guessing about the products you should be using. It becomes a trial and error effort while you try to find products that work for your skin, wasting both time and money.

A professional, such as an aesthetician, can examine your skin and guide you towards the correct products for your skin type and skin concerns.

2 Wear sunscreen everyday

Wearing sunscreen everyday is a critical component of your skincare routine. It protects your skin from the harmful effects of the suns rays. As we all know, using sunscreen can help reduce your risk of skin cancer. Lesser known, is that sun exposure is one of the causes of premature skin aging. The good news is that there are skincare products and treatments that can help sun damaged skin. However, without protecting your skin from the sun after these treatments, you are just causing further damage.

3 ALWAYS clean your face before bed and dry with a fresh towel.

Your face is exposed every day to environmental conditions and pollutants, makeup, sweat, and more. When you stop to consider how much your skin is expected to deal with, doesn’t it make sense to wash your face before bed? All that buildup of gunk shouldn’t be on your face overnight. Your skin needs an opportunity to ‘breathe’.

4 Change your pillowcase nightly or every second night.

This ties in with the last tip. As we sleep, sweat, drool, and dead skin cells are deposited on our pillowcases. The next night, our freshly cleaned skin is placed against that pillow while we sleep. Personally, I change my pillowcase every second night.

5 Wash your makeup brushes and sponges.

Makeup brushes and sponges are used daily and so experience a buildup of makeup, bacteria, and other debris. There are special cleansers that you can purchase specifically for cleaning brushes and sponges. Alternatively, you can use mild dish soap. Just put a small amount on your palm or dish, wet your brush and gently wash the bristles by swirling them in the soap. Rinse well and lay flat to dry.

6 Use a vitamin C serum on your skin in the mornings.

Vitamin C has a multitude of benefits for your skin, including protection from free radicals, improved skin tone, and skin brightening. It is a staple in my skincare routine and a serum I recommend to most of my clients.
